HCFCU raises $10K for ‘Relay for Life’

Hawaii Community Federal Credit Union recently announced it raised $10,135 for the 2017 Relay for Life of Kona held July 8 in Kailua-Kona.

The fund were raised through in-branch donations from members and staff, as well as selling Punaluu Sweet Bread, Relay for Life Ribbons, Chocolate Bar Sales and other activities. Since 2016, HCFCU has raised more than $20,000 for the Relay for Life on Hawaii Island.

The relay, which benefits the American Cancer Society, featured a six-hour fundraising relay with hundreds of people walking to celebrate cancer survivors, remembering those who lost their struggle with the disease and supporting those still fighting cancer. According to the Relay for Life of Kona website, 30 local teams helped raise more than $71,000 so far this year.

The credit union is also participating in the Relay for Life of North Hawaii on Aug. 19.
